I talk… to myself… and I don't listen…

It’s been a few weeks but I figured I would update and try to keep things going.  Just to get you up to date, I didn’t actually start anything on June 1.  It took a few weeks to get going.

On June 13th, I decided to make the change – and have succeeded so far.  I started going “primal” that day.

What is primal?

Primal is quite possibly the most stringent thing I’ve ever done. I had some friends who started talking about paleo lifestyle and primal lifestyle. So I did some reading of my own.  A few sites that I read, and continue to read, are as follows:

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/

http://paleodietlifestyle.com/

There are more out there but these are the ones I’ve read most, though I’ve read several.  Mark Sisson, of http://www.marksdailyapple.com, has written a book entitled “The Primal Blueprint“.  I have read this and it makes a lot of sense to me.

So I’m pursuing the idea as hard as I can.  I’ve started with no sugars.  It has been 3 weeks since I’ve knowingly tasted sugar — well, not including that mixed drink I had Friday night.  I’ve cut most aspects of a grain based diet as well.  The only thing that I’m getting of grains (which includes corn) is through vegetable oil – which is mostly a form of oil made from corn.

As far as exercise goes, I’m still working on that. I join tai chi about a month ago and I’ve been “faithful” to it so far.  Since I actually like it, I’ll be sticking with it. My only problem is that I’m not practicing it as much as I should. Surprisingly, it actually gives me a work out that I can feel good about.

Achievements:

Weight:  I’ve lost around 8 pounds over the past 4 weeks. Which is fine. I don’t want to loose the weight fast - rumor has it that if you lose it fast, you gain it back fast.

Inches:  I haven’t actually measured my inches BUT I can tell that my pants are more loose.

Sleep:  I’m sleeping MUCH better. My wife hasn’t noticed any snoring (and she would tell me if she did) so either I’m not snoring at all OR the loudness of it is not as bad — either is a great accomplishment.

Feeling:  In the end, I’m feeling better. I wake up more rested than normal and when I get home I’m not exhausted.

All of these things add up to a better life in general so I’m excited about the future.
