Around June of 2011 I began following a primal lifestyle. It was, very much, a low carbohydrate sort of eating style. The difference was that you didn’t eat sugar, grains, or lentils. I won’t go into why these things were cut if you’re curious go check out http://www.marksdailyapple.com or read Mark Sisson’s book “The Primal Blueprint”. It is completely different than what you’ve been taught concerning diet and the lifestyle that comes along with that.

From June until November I dropped 20 pounds and kept it off. I could still see some lose but it wasn’t steady loss – it would fluctuate between 15 and 20 pounds. The issue, I realized, was that I wasn’t exercising at all.

In fact, I was rather sedentary. As someone whose job requires that they sit in front of a PC for most of the day – sedentary is the proper description. This was now my problem. And I made the decision to begin working out in someway.

I went to the gym provided by my employer for a few weeks. I found that I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be around other people while I was huffing and puffing. So, I talked to a friend of mine who had used Beachbody programs to get into shape. He had done p90x several times and suggested that I start using the predecessor to it, Power 90.

I began that journey on December 5, 2011. Within two weeks I hadn’t lost much more weight but I noticed an immediate difference in the way my clothes began to fit. In mid January, I bought new pants. I was wearing a size 44 before and my new pants were a tight 38. By the end of January, my weight was down 25 total pounds from my June ’11 weight.

Power 90 is an excellent program to get yourself started. If you’ve never worked out it is the way to go. Think of it as a stepping stool.

Mid-February rolled around and I had become bored with Power 90 and, honestly, was doing it about half way. So I took another step. I ordered Shaun T’s Insanity. I began doing that on February 28. And I have to say, I love this program. I has some of the same stuff on various days but I was excited to do something a little different everyday.

Today is March the 6th and I completed my first week of Insanity this past Saturday. I find that I’m evaluating, once more, my diet. I’m going to, at least temporarily, get away from the Primal thing. I find that I’m not doing as well as I would like to do and I know that, because I’m working hard physically, I have to dial in my nutritional intake. And I’m still working on it. I’ll be posting, soon, my eating place as well as what I’m doing when it comes to supplements.

Keep in mind, the key mantra with Beachbody programs is to keep pressing play everyday. And it works. If you want to start something that is going to change your life for the better EVERY DAY, then, by all means, find something to do and do it everyday. Even if only a little bit. I’m not saying that you have to do Beachbody stuff but I am saying that, to change your health, you have to do it one day at a time remembering that old adage: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. How do you become more healthy, one thing, one decision at a time.

If you want to do something from Beachbody and would like to have a coach, by all means, go sign up at Beachbody (the account is free) and ask for me to be your coach – even if you don’t do Beachbody, I promise you that I’ll try my best to help you in anyway you would like to see.
